Confirmation
The prophets of the Old Testament foretold that God's Spirit would rest upon the Messiah, empowering his mission. This prophecy was fulfilled when Jesus, the Messiah, was conceived by the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary. At His Baptism by John, the Spirit descended upon Him, and throughout His ministry, Jesus remained in perfect communion with the Spirit. Before His death, He promised that this same Spirit would be given to the Apostles and the entire Church. After His resurrection, he was raised by the Father through the power of the Spirit.

Confirmation strengthens and deepens the grace received at Baptism, calling us to be missionary witnesses of Christ in our families, neighborhoods, and the world. This sacrament invites us into a more profound encounter with Jesus, who asked the Father to send the Holy Spirit to build up the Church in love and service. [from the United States Catholic Catechism for Adults]
Confirmation is offered to candidates who are at least in eighth grade, in accordance with Diocesan policy. Preparation includes a series of classes and activities running from September through May, with the sacrament typically celebrated during the Easter season.
