Children listen to the Word

Preparation: Because the materials made available to the team are quite complete and easily implemented, very little training is required. Usually, what is needed to be learned can be communicated in a three-hour initial meeting.

Purpose: Through the Children’s Liturgy of the Word children present at one of the Sunday Masses have an opportunity to experience the Scriptures at a level more suited to their age and understanding. Following the entrance procession, children generally between the ages of five and eight adjourn to a separate area where the Children’s Liturgy team members proclaim the readings and engage children in appropriate activities associated with the message they have heard. As the prayers of petition are begun, the children join their families once more in the church.

Commitment: With a minimum of three teams, consisting of three persons each, no individual will be required to participate more than one Sunday per month. It is envisioned that a participating team member, depending on one’s particular role (i.e., leading the gathering or reading the Scriptures or keeping order), will not need more than two hours of preparation for each session in which he or she is involved.
