Purpose: Since Vatican II, the role of music ministry now belongs to the congregation. Theirs is the song and the singing of it. The purpose of the choirs, cantors, keyboard accompaniment artists, and music planning committee is to help the St Ladislas parish worship through prayer and song. They do this by simply sharing our gifts of music, both instrumental and vocal, in a non-competitive way for the good of community singing. We are instruments of the Holy Spirit, like living water poured out, helping give life to the St Ladislas parish community prayer, the great prayer of Christ. Commitment: In all the music leadership services the commitment is to holiness of life, to prayer, and to sharing their musical talents. The commitment of time varies with each ministry.
MUSIC PLANNING: They meet every six weeks after individually selecting music that is wedded to the Word of God. A knowledge of liturgy and of music is required.
LITURGICAL CHOIR: The structure accommodates both large and small group singing, full and associate membership, a great variety of musical styles, as well as accompaniments and collaborative decision making. This is a highly skilled choir. Audition by appointment. YOUNG ADULT CHOIR: High school students with vocal and/or instrumental training to support the liturgical prayer of our community. An audition to determine how the students may best participate is normative. Rehearsal time will help the group in its preparation and presentation. CARITAS CHOIR: Caritas means caring. They gather on Tuesday evenings every other week. Currently we are conducting Sing-A-Long programs at Assisted Living Homes in the area. FUNERAL CHOIR: This is a ministry of compassion for those who are grieving. We gather for funerals and help the assembly to participate by singing with them. A flexible schedule and ability to get short notice is a requirement Contact Person: Sr. Mary Joan Grisez (Parish Office - 835-2300) |
